Originally from Kent, and now living in Sussex, I am familiar with the vast range of indigenous building materials from this small corner of the UK. The local stones and bricks, the tile-hanging, wooden clapboarding and the use of strong wealden timber contribute enormously to the sense of place in both old and new buildings alike. As I have travelled more widely, I learn as much about a place by the materials surrounding as the spaces within.

My photographs seek to capture the richness of materials, and the effect of weather, decay and maintenance upon them, together with the contrasting qualities of more modern materials.
